Tunewriting: We’ll look at strategies for composition and how to write your own music. By focusing on fiddle tunes and other short term pieces, we’ll discover how writing benefits overall musicianship. This will likely be a larger discussion and steered by student interest. Should be a good fit whether you’ve written a lot or none at all. All tunings are welcome but I will be in fifths of some sort

Chord Melody for Everyone (Yes, Everyone!): This accessible discussion will focus on how we intuitively associate chords with melody notes. Scale degrees and “Nashville numbers” 
are tools that can help! The process is the same in every tuning. (I will use C-G-D-A). Whether your goal is to sing and strum, jam with others, or play solo, this workshop is designed to help you understand and advance the music that’s already in your ears

Navigating the chord changes and bring more interest to your bass lines: I will discuss and demonstrate typical bass lines over common changes and how to fine tune them to support 
the ensemble or soloist and bring energy and life to a performance.

Tuning will be in fourths E-A-D-G (low to high) but will be applicable to all tunings

Learn“Old Time” traditional Native American dance tunes on Tenor Guitar. For melody players, we will learn a few traditional melodies that fit for both GDAE & CGDA tunings and for chord players, we will learn to back up the melody. Extending an open invite to any fiddlers, mandolin players or others who might want to join in and learn a few new tunes. Note that there is a rich, centuries-old fiddle tradition among many Native American tribes including the Cherokee, Yaqui, Inuit, Tohoho O’odham, Sioux & Metis, to name a 
few.

This workshop is dedicated to helping players move to the next level and learn to play with bands and soloists. We will explore how the tenor guitar fits into group dynamics, the role of the Tenor Guitar and how best to play with soloists. In addition, the workshop will examine the importance of playing with barre chords and how they can expand you’re play to a whole new level.
