The Tenor Guitar Foundation - TGF

The Tenor Guitar Foundation (TGF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering musicianship and promoting the tenor guitar, a unique four-string instrument. Established in 2009 by enthusiast Mark Josephs, the foundation serves as a central hub for the tenor guitar community, providing resources, history, and educational opportunities. 

Core Activities and Events

  • Tenor Guitar Gathering (TGG): The foundation’s flagship annual event, held in Astoria, Oregon, during the first weekend of June. It features:

    • Workshops led by professional musicians.

    • Concerts showcasing the instrument's versatility in jazz, folk, and country genres.

    • Networking and jam sessions for players of all skill levels.

  • Instrument Donations: The TGF supports the next generation of musicians by donating instruments to beginners.

  • Local Chapters: The foundation encourages the growth of the community through local TGF chapters where members can connect and share their passion.

  • Hall of Fame: The foundation maintains a Hall of Fame to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the instrument and its culture.

Community and Support

  • The foundation operates primarily through donations and membership. 

  • TG Champion Membership: Supporters can become "TG Champions" for a $100 annual fee, which includes benefits like a 20% discount on TGG tickets and a commemorative T-shirt.

  • Volunteering: Much of the organization's work, including the annual gathering, is supported by a dedicated group of volunteers.
