ACCOMPANYING VOCALS AND PLAYING IN A BAND
Reinforcing his belief that the tenor guitar has tremendous musical versatility, Baier will demonstrate how to vary playing styles to suit the instrument’s role in both accompanying vocals as well as playing in a band or ensemble. Topics will include:
- Chords and easy “dressed up” chord progressions set in the context of familiar songs
- Developing better pick control
- Simple strumming techniques to enhance different musical styles
- The importance of using partial (less than all four strings) chords in rhythm playing
- Emphasizing individual notes in common chords to be used as harmony or fills
- Breaking up strums to produce both a bass line and rhythm at the same time
- Introduction of alternate tunings and where (and why) to use them
This workshop will be flexible based on interests of those in attendance and is not limited to the topics above. A brief Q&A session at the beginning will determine where we go from there, so bring your instrument, questions and curiosity!
